Ten Penny Ale Returns to
Whisky Live - New York!
Whisky Live New
York 2008

Where: Puck Building, Manhattan, NY
When: Wednesday, April 2

As part of the celebration of  “Tartan Week” in New York City, Olde Burnside Brewing has been invited to again participate in “WhiskyLive,”  which now also features the finest microbrews in “The Beer Experience.”
An evening of exceptional brews, whiskies, great food and entertainment, the event will be held April 2, at the historic Puck Building in the heart of the Soho district. Details are available at www.whiskylive.com
.

We heard you!    Single Malt TV is back!

Olde Burnside Brewing, of East Hartford, CT, will be offering a new Belgian style
Witbier with a Scottish flair by adding a little heather to the mix!
The beer is 45% wheat/55% barley, with an abv of around 5%.

Penny Weiz (Wise)
will be debuting on local shelves around early spring!

Based on an original homebrew recipe,
“Penny Weiz” came about as a collaboration with
Paul “Zok” Zocco
of Zok’s Homebrewing Supply and Olde Burnside head brewer, Joe Lushing.
It was brewed to be a refreshing summer thirst-quenching beer and we believe
it may become just as popular as the “Ten Penny!” Look for “Penny Weiz” this
spring in their familiar ½-gal. amber growler.

Whisky Live is one of the many Scottish cultural events featured in New York during Tartan Week.

The US Senate designated April 6th as National Tartan Day in 1998 to honor "the outstanding contribution of millions of Scottish-Americans to our great nation" and the House of Representatives passed a similar resolution in 2005. The significance of April 6th dates back to the 1320 signing of the Declaration of Arbroath , which was the model for the American Declaration of Independence.

75th Anniversary of Legal Beer in America!

Prohibition officially ended on December 5, 1933, with the ratification of the 21st Amendment. But earlier that year, newly-elected President Franklin D. Roosevelt took steps to fulfill his campaign promise to end the national ban on alcohol. He spurred Congress to modify the Volstead Act to allow the sale of 3.2 percent beer in advance of Prohibition’s ratification.
Thus on April 7, 1933, Roosevelt himself received newly legalized beer at the White House to toast what was the beginning of the end for Prohibition.

Brewing Humor!

"A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of beer a year.
That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind Of Makes You Proud To Be American."

Retirement Planning:  If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1000.00. With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left. But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the bottles for the recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
